NATO gives 70 combat aircraft to the Ukrainian Air Force

The Ukrainian Navy said that three NATO countries - Bulgaria, Poland and Slovakia - will transfer 70 combat aircraft to join forces against Russia.

The Navy posted on its official Facebook page the warplanes stationed at Polish airports. “If necessary, they can be deployed to Polish airfields, from which Ukrainian pilots will use them for combat missions.”

Bulgaria will transfer 16 MiG-29 fighters and 14 Su-25 attack aircraft, Poland 28 MiG-29s, and Slovakia 12 MiG-29s.

But on Monday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Kirill Petkov firmly refused to send planes to Ukraine. Petkov said: “We have a small number of planes and we cannot transfer them to any country. Their number is not at all sufficient to protect our skies, and the statements we will give them at such a time are absurd.”

Military support is focused on Ukraine as the war against Russia continues

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that senior EU diplomats have agreed to supply Ukraine with lethal weapons worth up to 450 million euros. He added that the European Union would provide Ukraine with military aircraft.

This development comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed an application for European Union membership for his war-torn country.

Finland also decided to send arms aid to Ukraine. An official statement of the Ministry of Defense said that the country will deliver 2,500 assault rifles, 150,000 rounds of ammunition for assault rifles, 1,500 anti-tank weapons and 70,000 combat ration packages to Ukraine as material aid. It will also provide bulletproof vests, vehicle helmets and emergency medical services units. The government also decided to agree to the re-transfer of artillery from Estonia to Ukraine.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that Melbourne has allocated $50 million to fund lethal weapons for Ukraine. "We're talking about missiles and ammunition and we're talking about supporting them in their defense of their homeland in Ukraine," Morrison said.
