DUBAI, September 13 / WAM / The Emirates Mars Exploration Project, the "Probe of Hope", in partnership with the "Dubai Air Show 2021", launched the "Discover Planet X" challenge, which is a new national competition designed to inspire students and talents to take an interest in space science and advanced technology. And the establishment of a new generation of national cadres interested in working in the space and aviation sectors, which contributes to the diversification of the national economy.

The multidisciplinary competition provides opportunities for young people in the country to have an exciting experience in building a mission to discover a new planet, through a two-month competition dedicated to designing and programming robots for space exploration.

The "Discover Planet X" challenge will start with a pre-qualification round this September, followed by a week of training next October. And the main challenge will be held during the "Dubai Airshow 2021", which will last from November 14 to 18, where high school and university students will have to design ground robots and an aerial unmanned aircraft that will undertake the task of reconnaissance on Planet X to discover its properties .. and the winning team will receive a prize A prize of 50,000 dirhams.

Eng. Omran Sharaf, Director of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project, "Probe of Hope," confirmed that empowering young people and building their scientific capabilities is an important part of the UAE's vision to enhance its global position in all areas related to space.

He said that the "Discover Planet X Challenge", in partnership with the Dubai Airshow 2021, aims to inspire young people and stimulate their abilities and skills in science, engineering, technology and mathematics, by designing and programming robots to successfully carry out complex reconnaissance missions on Mars .. We want to inspire young people to reach To the stars and to contribute to the country's scientific progress in the fields of space and aviation.

For his part, Timothy Hawes, General Manager of Tarsus F&E, the organizing company of the Dubai Airshow 2021, said: Since its inception, the Dubai Airshow has served as a platform to support new talent and inspire future generations to be part of the global aviation industry .. We are pleased to support Important initiatives such as the Discover Planet X Challenge, which provides students with the opportunity to highlight their skills, gain experience and knowledge from leading experts in the sector, and pave the way for them to work in the future in the field of space.

According to the terms of participation in the "Explore the Planet Challenge", students must complete the open pre-qualification challenge, in which applicants are required to design an unmanned aircraft capable of carrying out missions on Planet X, provide technical details on how to carry out its work, and also compete in a challenge Direct programming that will be held in September.

The top 40 students will be invited to receive training and mentoring by engineers and technicians. They will learn how to design and produce the latest robots, vehicles and aircraft with 3D printers.

The main challenge will take place in November during the Dubai Airshow 2021.. To successfully complete their mission, students will have to face two challenges: First, build an unmanned ground vehicle to study the surface of Planet X and search for a sample collection site using Lego Mindstorms EV3.. There will be levels Programming is different between high school and university students.. All robots must have sensors and actuators, and teams have five minutes to complete an experimental simulation task without any support or assistance.

The second challenge will include designing an unmanned aerial vehicle to carry out reconnaissance missions. Students will be asked to use a prototype CAD Fusion 360 program to design and print the aircraft in 3D, in addition to a technical presentation on its design.
