Watch... a flying chair

Students from the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Cambodia have built a flying vehicle in the shape of a chair.

According to Sky News, this flying chair, equipped with a seat and eight propellers, rises to meters above the ground, if the passenger weighs no more than 60 kilograms, and can fly in the air for 10 minutes for a distance of 0.6 miles (1 kilometer).

According to the inventors, the work on making this flying chair lasted about three years, and its costs amounted to about $20,000.

The young inventors point out that the problem of frequent fires and traffic jams in their city prompted them to invent this flying chair, as it might help firefighters in fighting fires in tall buildings. And in the transportation of people.

The youths at the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia spent $20,000 (£14,000) to convert the school chair into a drone, and to equip it with eight propellers that allow it to fly at heights of about 13.1 feet (four metres).

In the future, the team hopes to improve the design to carry more weight and fly higher, and believes firefighters could use the drone to reach fires on the upper floors of buildings one day.
